I'm about to pull the trigger on a set of 1550s.
It looks to me like the Givi racks would make the whole set-up more narrow than the SW-Motech. Does anyone know if that is the case? It also looks like the Givi's are a little cheaper (assuming I don't have to buy a bunch of stuff to make them fit). What are the pros & cons? Thanks

The Givis are narrower. the downside, not as strong. That said, I have Givi racks and will soon be putting some pelican 1440's on them. If the racks fail I'll get the Motech rack.

Givi = narrower (slightly) and cheaper.
SW = stronger and removeable. I went SW and am pleased... but then again, others have gone GIVI and been please. I have owned GIVI in the past too, and been happy with their quality. Either way, I am sure you will end up happy, just pull the trigger.

It doesn't look like Caribou sells the racks without cases...

I 'm under the impression that the new SW Motech racks are narrower. I will be recieving my SW Motech's to mount my 1550's on within a week. Once they're mounted I can take some pic's and do some measurement if you can weight that long.
A Stromtropper from Ottawa had a set of Caribou racks for sale. He sold his V-Strom and put his 1550's on his KLR650 with new Carabou racks. The square tubing ,weld quality and overall finish didn't impress me. If I paid the price that Carabou want's for the luggage, I would be pisses. They may be stronger but they look like shit IMHO.

I have the SW Motech rack and bought a set of used E41 Givi's that work great with it. I also bought some pelican 1550's to mount for a trip to Alaska. My thinking is that I can use the Pelicans for Alaska and other rougher rides, where they will hold up much better than the Givi's and use the E41's for the rest of my riding. When I am done with either set, they will sell to another inmate pretty easily...so really I am just "renting" them.

Yeah, that seems likely. The caribou racks are the pants, but definitely have funky/unique design to them.
