What a gentle brush-off.
OK, if you won't share the mosquitoes, I won't buy you a donut. Seriously, you will enjoy Michigan's Upper Peninsula. US-2 is one of the two major routes along the UP, and it's a good road. Duluth MN is a nice place to explore. You can go to a high place in Duluth and get a fine look at the westernmost part of Lake Superior. The highway along Superior's north shore is scenic and twisty, because it largely hugs the tortuous shore. As you go around a rocky bend and glance up, you will see an Inukshuk looking down at you. You will see lots of them, in fact, and I predict you will be tempted to stop and build one of your own. DO that! It's a long ride to get back there, and you will be disappointed if you do not build your own inukshuk. I didn't build one, so I have to go back. I can live with that. Keith

I have only read a handful of replies, so I might be repeating what others have said.
Do not go West, go East. Everytime I head west and go to the Soo or Thunder Bay I am disappointed and go home angy. The Trans Canada Highway is NOT bike friendly, especailly now. I have driven my car all the way to the Grand Canyon and Utah, but I guess that is out of the question for you. From Owen Sound I would take a full day to get to Brockville and grab a hotel there. You can easily avoid the 401 if you plan. From Brockville you are minutes away from the best bridge crossing to NY, at Prescott. After 9-11 the 'other' crossing closer to Kingston became a Nightmare. It is a very nice and easy ride to Lake Placid from there, and you will arrive before lunch. Do not be afraid to go to the States, this part of the country is very laid back. I've been travelling to this area for over 20 years and have a booking at Art Devlin's hotel right now for the first weekend in August. From there you can easily spend a few days in Vermont, or skip through it and go to New Hampshire in a matter of hours. You could try going to North VT and ride the full length of route 100 in one day. I've wanted to do that but never got around to it. Forget about going West unless you plan on going very far and into the US.
