Default back country food

Got a good easy meal tip from a buddy this year on our anual back country trip. Now this trip we take is backpacking so light weight food that dosn't need chilling is best.........

Its real simple..............

By a bag of pitta bread, now look for the tuna in the bag/pouch....you can buy it plain or with mayo and other flavors added. I prefer to buy the plain and I add a mayo a mustard and a relish packet. Now just spread the tuna of your choice into the pitta and enjoy........

Tons better than the freeze dried boil in the bag meals.........

My wife and I discovered a line of food products that are mostly freeze-dried with some dehydrated items called Thrive. Company is based in Utah. We created our food storage and use it on a weekly basis at home and including camping...we just use ziploc baggies for sizing portions particular to our trip.

Many items like fruits and veggies can be eaten w/o hydrating and other items can be simply re-hydrated with a bit of water in a bowl/cup. It's great for RVs, too. The best part is that it's lightweight...awesome for bike traveling!

In light of full disclosure, we recently began selling Thrive food only because we liked it so much.

You can PM me if you want more info.

When ever I go backpacking, I will bring TVP. I also bring a multi stove to heat it up too because it disgusting otherwise. If you have a little pocket omni stove like me, then it's the best food to bring when you are in no mans land!

Except the mayo bit. Jeez, trying to get something without mayo in the USA is a pain! Even if one said "NO mayo! they'd still whack it on.

Re the tuna, I prefer the sweet chilli or sun-dried tomato flavoured stuff.

That's OK for you blokes who have lots of rivers. (I haven't been fishing for over 50 years.)

Default Honey and salmon

A breakfast version is to get whole wheat pita, fill it with the little pouches of salmon (a variation from tuna) and drizzle in honey. If you're a vegetarian, use honey and peanut butter. The protein and fiber help you maintain steady energy longer. When I bike camp, I prefer breakfasts like this because I don't want to mess with my cook stove and the clean-up that goes along with it. I just want enough to get me 30-60 minutes down the road to a local diner when I let someone else do the cooking.

What is TVP? Whatever I bring, I try to keep it simple. Variety is the spice of life for extended outings. Three weeks of Snickers may seem like a good idea when you're packing at home...
