This particular first entry will be updated as the thread evolves with all the essential info so you don't have to troll through all the pages to find out what's what, who's coming and all that.

Christmas Overnighter, Sat-Sun, Dec 8-9, at BrettStrom's place, 395 Beaury Creek Road, Urbenville, NSW. Google Map if coming from the south. True to the method of numbering rural properties it is 3.95 kms from the nearest main intersection (on Toloom Rd.) Or, as Brett describes it: "From the top of Beaury Creek Road VIA Woodenbong, I am approximately 7kms past the Leuvka 4x4 park turn-off. Otherwise, from Urbenville, turn right at the State School follow the bitumen to a T intersection which is dirt, turn left, ride approximately 2kms." Map of direct path from Urbenville HERE.

Brett & Diana have kindly offered the use of their property. Their home ph is 02 6634 1466. No mobile reception (not sure if that includes Telstra).

Dinner will be at the nearby Urbenville Pub (7 kms). Menu - see attached pic below - lamb, pork, + apple pie & ice cream etc. If you have special dietry requirements please contact Diane or Brett asap so they can work with Daryl to meet your needs.
We can use Daryl's (publican) van to taxi back 'n forth. Late night bon-fire at Brett's. Sunday breakfast BBQ, $5

Bring along partners, and open to non-VStroms, too. We had a lovely time at Chef's last year and Lions Road in May and if we can have a similar atmosphere again that'll be great.

There are many great rides in the area, both on-road and off-road. Chef is leading an off-road ride. Volunteer needed to lead a road ride. PM SteveC for route suggestions and group-ride notes.

Fuel up bikes at either Woodenbong or Urbenville and grab ice before arriving at the property. QLD'ers will lose an hour crossing the border (NSW on daylight saving time).

Christmas weekend

I have emailed Steve and Chef with some up todate info also my place is only 8kms away from Urbenville and the map is heading the wrong way, we will fix that up.

The publican Daryl is going out of his way to ensure the dinner is good so please 1 and all come along.

You can hang around the property all day or go out on a number of rides, the families can do a run over to Tooloom Falls etc. Bring the family bring the kids.

It is also warmer weather for those who didn't come down on the previous weekend. It will be hot so come prepared.

Cheers

Brett and Diana

Can I have 2 volunteers to organise a couple rides for Saturday, 1 off-road, 1 on-road, or combination.

Brett has sent me some suggested routes which I can forward to you. Just need someone to make it happen, plot the course, have a ride leader, sweep rider etc.

If you haven't led a ride before and would like to give it a go, I have some notes HERE. It's not hard, just takes a bit of thought to prepare.

It's a great way to contribute to the group and if you want you can wear FLOURO! woo hooo.

EDIT: Chef's doing the off-road ride. Still need someone to organise the on-road course please.

This arvo I digged out my biking tent that I haven't used since the 2005 NSW big Bicycle ride from Mt Koziusko to Kiama and had a go to see if I remember how to set it up after all this time.
Yeah it took a while :green_lol: seems like one of those technically challenging tents with criss-cross aluminium folding poles with the elestic band inside them and remembering which one goes in first and where they hook up and how the fly goes over the vestible and hook that up as the fly is a weird shape due to the very large porch area.
It's quite a roomy tent actually, especially in the storage undercover porch area.

It's actually a true biking tent light enough to take on a pushy and it'll be ideal for a motorcycle camping trip. Took me 20 minutes to dismantle and rollup and place into it's bag and probably weighs about 3 kg with the thicker steel pegs.
The original alloy pegs were bloody hopeless so were turfed on the first week of use.

So I'm getting a bit more excited about the overnighter camping trip at Urbanville and wanting to get back into this camping thang once again:yesnod:

All I gotta do now is find out how I'm gunna carry the tent, self inflating mattress, sleeping bag plus all my clothes and stuff into the little luggage I have at the moment....I'm gunna sell my NRMA shares to buy me a set of panniers but still not sure which ones I'll go for...soft or hard.

Cheers

My panniers are fine thanks!

Hi guys,

I was merely testing the protection method of the tree stump fencing with my panniers, had to make sure it was stable and secure should a car decide to try what I did! On another note, I haven't hit anything else with them yet!

In terms of the christmas party, I am completely unable to let you know either way yet. It depends on a few factors, I may need another shoulder reconstruction early Dec, if so, I can't ride down. And if I do try for the car, it depends if my partner can get time off work to drive me, she's a shift working nurse. I won't know about the reconstruction until another surgeon visit in late November. So I will let you guys know my plans when I know! But for the moment, better off to put me down as a not attending unfortunately.

Soups.
