Following on to M.L.'s thread, I propose an o'nighter on Saturday Nov. 24th and Sunday 25th. V-Chops P.M.ed me with a map he thought would fit and it is exactly what I had in mind.
Don would you post that map up here for those who don't know the area?

I'm away from the computer till next Monday. Anybody wanting to join in can indicate so here, even if they cannot be definite at this point in time. Accommodation will be organised in the coming weeks I'm sure there will be a suitable spot for those who want to camp somewhere close to town. I'll probably need a real bed although I'd love to camp.

I'm meeting my brother at Temora this weekend to watch the air display. The old Sabre will be among those flying. Back on Monday.

This is the interest so far:
Mountain Lagoon
Ockerstrom
Mudrat
Astro
V-Chops
Saturn 5
Normo
Giddy Goanna
OzzyP38arover
Thunderdownunder..(from QLD )
Some people cannot be definite at this stage. Have I missed any or is any one else wanting to join in?
The hotel is booked as M.L.informed us but Spud Murphy has a variety of room available at this stage. There is camping at the caravan park.
I'm looking forward to catching up with some old faces and meeting new.
Meeting points can easily be confirmed once we know who is coming.

I hope we can see some more join in.

Attendance & accommodation

I'm a definate on the Sat ride between Bell & Bathurst.

Unless family throw a spanner in the works, will continue to o'night destination.

Not fussed on caravan park camping, will bush camp, preference for Spud Murphy Inn at this stage. (single or shared)

Will follow majority of groups preference re- accommodation.

Let me know if I have to book a room or if someone is doing a group booking for shared single.

Looking forward to a shared riding experience, solitare doesn't do it for me anymore!

Cheers,
Giddy.

Note that I will not be going - my shoulder/arm is simply too painful. I won't be riding for sometime yet. I'll meet you at Blaxland Maccas for break key and the chance to meet a few more of you.

Sorry to hear about your sholder p38arover, hope it heals up soon so you can get back on the bike/s. Hope to see you forbrekkie at Maccas

Thanks Chops. I had surgery on 28th August so there is a fair bit of physio to go. It really brings what MotoGP et al riders do to get fixed and back on a bike so soon afterwards into stark reality!

To-morrow, I'll book 8 beds at Spuds with that number being subject to change, a couple either way. I should point out that there is 34kms of good dirt roads. There are a couple of kms of gravel but the tyre tracks should make it easy. There is however, some sections that appeared to be clay based when I last rode there ( in the dry ) almost 1 year ago. In the event of wet weather this may turn road tyres into slicks so I think it prudent to postpone the ride to another day.

Meeting places: My suggestion is, anyone riding from the East or Southeast meet up at Maccas Blaxland then onto the Imperial at Mt Victoria. Those riding from East or Northeast meet at Maccas at Richmond then onto meeting with the others at the Imperial Mt. Victoria which is on the corner of The Causeway. From here we meet those riding from the West ( Giddy Goanna and Ozzy Strom ) at the little restaurant eatery at the bottom of Mt Victoria, Hartley or The Pit Stop. Ozzy, the "Pit Stop", is that at the bottom of Con Rod at Mt Panorama?

Anybody want to change or add to that?
Anymore takers?

Let's hope for good weather and the 'maybe's' can all make it on the day. Don't forget cameras and mobile phones.

Saturn 5 ..... I need a country fix!

PS. Ron,it's a shame the shoulder is still giving you grief. See you at The Mens Shed.

Thanks Saturn, I was going to meet at Bell, but if you're not doing Hartley Vale Rd (off Darling causeway), I suggest Ozzy and I meet others at Imperial Hotel Mt. Vic. (it's only at the top of the hill, less stop/start for others).
I await approx meeting times closer to the date. My mobile is 0402 386 045.
Hey thanks for booking some beds, better than all of us ringing.

I'm excited.

I'll have brekkie at Blaxland, so I can see Ron. But I wanted do the BLR and Hartley Vale, but what ever. Why can't we all then meet at the Pit Stop (Ace) Cafe, which is 100m north of where Browns Gap Rd meets the Great Western Highway at Hartley.
I'm still going if it's raining and maybe modify the route, and camping at Crookwell CP  :biggrinjester: :hurray:
See yaz soon

Crookwell O'nighter..

I spoke to Spuds and they are very casual about bookings. I told him we have something like 5 definites and another 5 maybe's. They have 15 rooms ( we may be the only ones there.)

Rod 1: Chops comes from the 'Gong so if we meet at Blaxland Maccas say 8:30 it will be 9:30+, maybe 10 AM, before we get to Hartley as we will go the long way via Bells Line of Road. I'll tighten up times here as we get closer to 24th. The ride is not too long, so it's smell the roses, not a fast ride.
I'm looking forward to the ride and meeting up with the familiar names.
See you there on the 24th

Hello, I booked a room for myself at Spuds when we rode through Crookwell the other week, yep Mrs Spud was pretty flexible with any change in times, numbers or dates and her offer of a bacon & eggs breakfast sounded good too.

The caravan park is the only nearest legal camping spot I know of as the Pejar Dam only allows day visits.

Ron if I had the choice between a new lens and my shoulder hitting concrete I would have chosen my shoulder too, shoulders heal, lenses don’t!

Saturn will you and Chops be meeting any Stroms at Richmond Maccas about 9am-ish? Then onto BLR – Darling Causeway – Hartley vale Rd – Pit Stop café (on Great western Hwy near Venice caravan park & 200m from Cox River Rd) I am a solo rider for this one; my wife was not keen on being a pillion over the same dirt roads twice in one month.

The smell the roses pace sounds good, its daylight saving and the Crookwell Pub bistro/pizza bar takes dinner orders up until 8pm (sharp)

Rod 1: My apologies for not replying earlier to your post re. your lady Lida joining in. Lida is most welcome, I'm sure she will enjoy the weekend away.

Giddy Goanna: (Great name ) Same too with your mate Bruce. He is very welcome, thoughh he can expect me to put a few fingerprints all over his F800GS.
See you all on 24th.

I'm waiting to hear from Thunder as he is planning to ride from Qld :hurray: and is planning to visit his sister at Penrith South, he is welcome to stay at my place if she doesn't have room. At this point who else wants to meet at Blaxland Maccas? Stretch 49, which place best suits you? Then to meet up at Richmond Maccas then BLoR to the Causway and on.
Gee this is like trying to herd cats.

G'day Muddy. I'm pleased you can make the 24th, good to catch up again. I never got to do the Wattagans with you but maybe soon as I haven't forgotten. Maybe we can persuade Chops to give his old bones some comfort and try a softer bed. I'd camp if I could but those days are gone for me now, perhaps camp in a caravan. As a matter of fact I am to-morrow buying the first materials to build a 16' caravan which will also take a bike along via a rear door. The finance minister doesn't know about it yet but I can hide the unassembled pieces in my garage for long enough for it to be too late for her to complain. (much)
The family had a 6 months trip around Oz in '88 and I've been wanting to do it again ever since.
Interesting times ahead me thinks. :yesnod:
See you 24th, hope Ock can see his way clear too.

Here is a copy of my tank bag ride sheet. The google map times per km given for different terrain & dirt sections are always generous, with a list like this on my tank bag to follow roads signs and my nose I rarely look at my GPS or maps (which may explain why I sometimes take a scenic route)

RICHMOND – HARLEY VALE (dirt) – PIT STOP
– 75 KM 1H 15M
PIT STOP – COX RIVER RD (dirt) – LOWTHER – HAMPTON – TARANA
– 55KM 1H
TARANA – OCONNELL – THE LAGOON – MT PANORAMA
– 48KM 1H
MT PANORAMA – TRUNKEY CREEK (dirt) – ABERCROMBIE CAVES (dirt)
– 55 KM 1H
ABERCROMBIE CAVES – TUENA (dirt) – CROOKWELL
– 77KM 1H 10M
CROOKWELL – LAGGAN – WOWAGIN (dirt) – TARALGA
- 38KM 1H
TARALGA – OBERON
– 99KM 1H 30M
OBERON – HAMPTON – BILPIN
– 103KM 1H 35M

Thunder has the new Shinko E-705's fitted, 50K full service complete Panniers on, tent/mattress and blow up Doll strapped on the rearseat:jawdrop: and will leave Brisvegas Thursday morning via the NE Hwy to Walcha - then the "Thousand bends":yikes: down to the coast for a home cooked meal/ Bed at Mum's (Laurieton). Friday I've got to do the Putty Road (an old friend that road is) and on to South Penrith for a sisterly meal/Mag and bed. Saturday, apparently I'm meeting up with some sort of weird rabble who think a short ride should encompass half of NSW. I'm thinking I'm so looking forward to six days of me time.:hurray:
The meeting place/ time on Saturday morning is not clear to me but I'll send Wardy my Mobile number and we will work something out Friday Night

I really don't want to post this but .... I'm out too! As a result of some trauma a few years ago, I suffered a compression fracture of a vertebra which is not responding to treatment over the last few weeks and it"s giving me hell. At this point in time I plan to meet up with Thunderdownunder at Blaxland then meet with the others at Maccas Richmond. But that's as far as I can go.
After I missed Bingara, I promised myself to give touring away as it's becoming all too painful now and it's time to be serious. So as not to be tempted to continue I'll post the Strom for sale in the next couple of weeks.
Enjoy the ride and camaraderie fellers, wish I was going along as well.

If nearly everyone is meeting at Maccas Richmond to ride the Bells Line of Road, wouldn't it make sense for Thunder to tide over there, too. Then I can pick you up at home, Brian, and take you, by car, to Richmond.

Confirm meeting time/place.

I will make the meet at Maccas Richmond but am still in doubt for the overnight part of it :headbang:

So will someone confirm if it is Maccas Richmond and the time please [or the alternative location].

If I turn up with the camping gear on the bike it means I'm good to go, no gear means just coffee :fineprint:

FullThrottle Diner Hartley

I was chatting with Brenda who owns/runs the Full Throttle Diner at Hartley where Lida and I will be waiting about 10ish Saturday Morning and she said to mention she would do a $10 breakfast including coffee or soft drink for V-Strom riders. Worth waiting for! Rod

Saturn, I'm sorry to read that you can't do the ride, but I understand that you must do what's right for your body :yesnod:.
It would be great if we could all have nice meeting together, and as Ron has kindly offered to pick you up, may I suggest that we all meet at Richmond. That way you and Ron will get to see the boys and it will save time (instead of two stops in the one area).
I was thinking of departing Maccas Richmond around 9.30. I'll be there by 8.30 so that gives us plenty of time to chew the fat .
That will put at the Full Throttle Cafe a bit after 10.30 to meet the westerners, and be on time for a counter lunch at the O'Connell pub

Here is a map of the route

We could go to Wardy's on Friday evening - he usually has a few rider mates over for a 2-hour chin wag. BYO drinks, soft for me. I haven't been for a while. I could pick you up from your sister's.
