Very early stages of planning Tone and a big thanks for putting your hand up,a cabin is a must with head pointing to the blunt end of the vessel--a home game of the mighty Hawks at Aurora--how well do you know Mr Demetriou ?--I will trust your HR skills on that one-

Count me in for Tassie .
Leave etc permitting.
Will ride down from Brissie make a bit of a road trip out of it.
How early would you need to book the ferry and cabin and accommodation?

Hey Big Tone if Launceston is to be the gathering point can you suggest any worthwhile hostelries in your neck of the woods as suitable venues? if footy is on at Aurora on the saturday then a pub nearby there might be the go maybe. I feel the need for an urgent R&D trip south to help with the search....LOL!!!

There are many options as regards hostelries, one of the members of the local Ulysses club owns a motel/restaurant and is willing to put a package together for accom and food, but there are plenty of other eateries depending on what people want and the numbers that actually commit to coming down. As most people will be coming for more than the weekend it may make more sense to arrange the dinner in a more remote spot to try and keep people closer together and give them more opportunities to see The Island.

As time gets closer I will formulate a listing of various accommodation types with indicative pricing and also seek out preferences in regards to 5 star versus camping. I think at some point though a decision will have to be made in regards to booking a "suitable" venue and if it looks like all becoming to hard, I will take on board the comments made up o that point in time and then just make a decision that will hopefully appeal to the majority. So in short if anyone wants to put there two bob's worth in, go for it!!!!!!!

+1 pending nothing happens to destroy the plan.

Can i rock up in a tin top ? we are going to be in tassie on holidays at the same time , the wife won't go on the wee , she has a back problem and can only go on short rides ( 200Kms ). I was going to hire a bike for a weekend until i worked out how much it costs , hopefully we make it next year , been trying for 3 years now.

Ozzy, a 200km ride in Tassie is a big day as you can cover a lot of ground in Tassie but I've found on my trips there that you stop quite often to just take a look at the many sights of the place and at most you may spend only 1 hour on the bike at a time before stopping anyway.

Hi Kenny , the ride from orange to melbourne would kill her back (800kms or so) , she would be in bed for the rest of the holiday.
Even a 200km ride leaves her very sore ,thats including stops every 50kms or so .
So its got to be the car
Maybe my son and i will do tassie on the bikes later

no worries mate, was thinking of maybe a method of swaying your better half to play co-pilot with ya down south but as you say another trip later will happen with your son to enjoy the roads of Tassie another time. I've got my '03 Vee and also a B-King so might pack em both on the ute for the boat trip and unload em a t my cousin's place and her hubby can pilot the Strom as the King is a bit too much bike for most folk. especially me and with his long break form riding he would be in all sorts of strife within seconds on the King as I can attest too, been there, done it and want more!!!LOL
