Late notice but after checking a few rosters there is an opportunity for us to do an overnighter to Killarney on Sat 17th June 2017, we are hoping others may like to meet up. We are staying at the Killarney pub (07 4664 1313) as per Bretts advice....bloody cold to be walking to the caravan park (there are 2 C/parks in town). Next door to the pub are motel rooms run by the pub.
We plan to be there by noonish on Sat and are leaving at 1pm for a dirt ride up to a plateau (Chris is leading that) with great views. Then back in time for a beer on the verandah as the sun sets. They have a fire inside....awesome.
So far Red Neddy, Greenstrom, Sandman 61, Rob and I are going from the Gold Coast on the 5 Stroms via Mt Lindesay Hwy then Toolum Rd. Can you make it Sean, Don, Mark, Wayne, Gary & Hiew, Hugh & Ang, Alec, Ian...any one else (my brain hurts sorry if I missed anyone localish). It would be a great ride from anywhere actually, hoping you can make it.
We are attending the race meeting, as a friend of ours is racing. Will probably stay in Warwick, but may venture out for a sly ale on the Saturday night Trev
Hi Trev, there is a good chance we will turn up for this ride but lm a woose when it comes to riding in the rain.
Let you know on Friday, it will be a good time regardless.
The weather is supposed to clear by the weekend.......but boy it will be wet in some areas underfoot. It just keeps raining here on the GC. Warwick forecast is attached below....so there is some hope.
Other things I am not here for include sadly this years Wall to Wall ride. Its a high point of my year usually. Be in Scotland or somewhere over there - I am informed
I am leading our monthly ulysses club ride on Sunday. Tweed Heads to Rappville pub for lunch. Then back to Tweed via Kyogle. So I can"t make this one. Have a good weekend
Oh dear! I was in Kingaroy on Tues-Wed and Jandowae on Thursday - I came home Friday (1,010km). You would have had to accept me arriving in a Range Rover. :furious:
A quick ride up to Killarney via Woodenbong and Urbenville, he said. That was great and a great night was had by all at the good ol Killarney Pub. A quick dash up Emu Creek Road he said, well that was another story. If you have a DR and love to bash it and get it dirty, then today was for you..... not if you own a strom and have just cleaned it up nicely. Not to mention the free slips, slides and splashes that come with the ride free of charge. As Ken will probably tell you the mudguard on the strom is more a mud collector than a guard. Some times it even stops the wheel from turning (a lot) and needs sticks and wire to get it out. Hopefully the next time we go up Emu Creek Road it will be a lot dryer or in a 4WD! I guess it was sort of nudging adventure when you are all stuck and no mobile coverage anywhere. But after we all got out safely with no injuries or damage it was a great ride.
We got away from the Gold Coast on time. Missed most of the rain, we caught some showers through Urbenville area, so it made Toolum Rd really nice in the forest. We all enjoyed that, very Wintery. Overall we did good twisties, forests, long straights and some nice gravel. Pic below is the 5 Stroms arriving at Killarney Pub....a great family pub.
Thanks for the pics Hugh....I think. Thanks for coming along we all enjoyed the chat and laughs over dinner and the fire, plenty of red wine seemed to get drank at that end of the table. Mind you a few ales disappeared at our end.
Hopefully Dennis, Chris and Ken will have some shots of their recon to the Lincoln plane wreck start point. Rob and I waited back at Emu Vale after only doing 1 creek crossing. We piked out (or rather decided to play safe, it was bloody muddy, plenty of near misses I hear, but they loved it). The Landrover would have been awesome Ron, it was real drover territory.
A great weekend, thanks everyone. And we got to check out Alecs new KTM...very nice indeed.
It was a great weekend for sure. What we haven't mentioned is that when the weather tried to spoil our fun on Saturday pm, we decided to go to Morgan Park Raceway in nearby Warwick. We were treated to some up close and personal views, including a walk through the pits, of the local moto road racing club. Outstanding stuff!!
Great clips Dennis....Ken had his work cut out. I like the shot of him holding his bike while ol'mate Chris removed the clog of mud from his front end to allow his wheel to rotate again. What a mate.
I had forgotten about Morgan Pk.........we saw Steve C son Michael racing. Thanks for the wave whilst racing Michael. It was easy spot 5 old farts in the crowd I guess.
Never even thought until later in that day that the races you may been at were the bikes, there was some sort of race carnival on in town also, the four legged type, and assumed that was what you meant. All the young ones turned up at the pub dressed in their clobber.
We stumbled on the bikes on Saturday as it was too wet to do the look out as planned. None of the awesome foursome (well Rob, Dennis, Chris or Ken) even knew the track existed, and I didnt know until I hit it by accident on a ride a few weeks ago. It seems to be a well kept secret. Not any more - we want to spend a day there.
Yeah Trev, it's a great little track! Linc Gilding was our mate that was racing, his father lives over the road from us. He used to race Moto3 and competed at the PI GP a few years ago. He was on an R6 Yamaha #71. Got a couple of podiums. Things got a little hectic Saturday night and Killarney was just a little too far by taxi........lol
