Both the Vstrom 650 and 1000 2018 models will arrive in Australia May-June.
I just place a deposit and reserved one of the 1st off the boat.
There is no price announced though I am told I will pay aprox $20,000 for the fully fitted out with spoked rims, panniers and top box 1000 XT.
Colors are not defined for OZ release yet but I ordered black, there may be red and gloss black.
Contact your dealers now as these dates were just announced late last week.
Sounds so weird to pay $20K for a Strom. But the Aus/US exchange rate make that about $15K US.
Also seems strange to place down earnest money for the future delivery. I'd hate the wait!
I like the looks of the new 650XT coming out.....very nice indeed.
I don't really have the need for the larger 1000 including additional rego and Insurance costs, my old DL650 is pretty reasonable with on roads. Maybe a good low km used 1000 could be an option.
Might wait for end of year specials.....can't justify one just yet.
Although I have no specific knowledge I cannot imagine how you could true a spoked wheel if the spokes were peened rather than threaded, and spokes will always stretch and bed in, especially over the first few thousand kms. I never owned a new dirt bike that did not need a little attention to the spokes at some stage.
So, I'm speculating that all spoked wheels MUST have a way to tighten and adjust them.
Wow. That's unusual. The advantage of spoked wheels is that they should be both lighter and stronger. This gives you a more comfortable feeling to perhaps reduce the pressures on dirt.
Surely cast rims would be just as susceptible to catastrophic rim damage as cast wheels. Would that not negate much of the advantage of having spoked rims?
I tend to agree with Nugget173 in regards to the GT version of the 1000.
I think that I can't see value in $5K difference when as Hugh said you can option it up for 2 K less, so one needs to ask where the value is with the price difference?
Yeah maybe against Africa Twin it may seem good value but the Sfrica is more designed for offroad adventure where the Strom isn't as off road orientated but i bet the Strom is the better all round Tourer.
You can buy last years 1000 for not much more than the new 650 atm.
I have made that assumption on our situation and forgot to allow for panniers as we reused ours from the Wee's so add another $1500 - $2000 depending on choice and you have $20K so not a bad deal.
Only what I've been told, can't seem to get any more info about it. I hope the claim is incorrect, as I would be very interested to see if the rims would fit my 2014 Vee2....... cast wheels with road tyres and spoked wheels with knobs! :smile2:
Just thinking but isn't it a new 650 this year with the new 1000 in 2018?
If you are really keen on a set of wire wheels for dirt might you not be best to find some dirt bike accessories specialist that might be able to set you up with a set of accessory wheels to match to your V2? A 21" inch front might even be possible with fender mods.
The biggest issue would be the larger axle (I'm guessing), and disc offset. It would be a better quality and maybe even a cheaper option as well.
Well it is a forum, and individuals opinions are just that individual.
However if you have an issue with a comment or someones individual opinion best you use either the PM function to the individual or better still attend more rides, organise a ride or make a worthwhile contribution to the over good of the forum and its members.
Over the last 12 months there has been an increase in childish school yard behavior, comments in a number of topics. This isnt the norm, does anyone actually think before they reply to a post.
Well I cannot wait for the backlash from my reply. Bring it on bitches.

That's it Brettstrom you are now booked for another famous ride out West with tight schedule and guaranteed defined route. Reckon a few more from this thread should come too....I will even volunteer as navigator.
As for Stumps cooking, if its up there with his Karaoke then it may eatable.

Trev you must have been as plastered as him if you think his Karaoke was any good>. Either that or I had 1 or 2 drinks and thought the cat got its tail caught in the tailgate of the FJ:grin2:.

It's well known across this forum that Mustang has great insight to artistic ability.
But accolades must also go to Brettstrom. During a drop in to Noccundra Pub late last year they still speak of a mysterious Cook who rocked up one night a few years ago on a loud, thirsty for premium fuel V. Chef Brettstrom (as they still refer to him), cooked steaks to perfection....all for payment of a few lettuce leaves and the remnants of a potato salad (ignoring the $35 bucks he had to pay for the meat). They still await the day he will return.
I have yet to meet Chef Brettstrom he sounds interesting.
The Brettstrom I know has never even attempted to boil water, he prefers to fill others with Schnapps, he then sits back and gets waited on like a king.
I did offer to do a damper, It was just bad luck that it was the same weekend as fire ban :fineprint:was on.> In reference to the Schnapps, I was not the keeper of the schnapps nor was I the pourer. Miss December will have something to say about this.
