The Pub With No Beer

Wanted to recommend a ride I did last Saturday with a couple of others.Starting from Coffs went down the boring highway until we reached Macksville. From here the ride picked up as we headed out to Taylors Arm along some nice windy country road.Bit early for a beer at The Pub With No Beer so continued on eventually reaching the old Armidale-Kempsey road. This road, mainly dirt, takes you through some beautiful country and the little towns of Bellbrook and Comara.
Despite a notice saying the road was closed 45kms further on we continued on up the mountain range and never did so much as see where it had been closed.its a great bit of dirt road about 140kms of dirt I am told ranging from open country 80 to 100km or faster if you are game to slow first gear rutted corners. It had been raining for a week prior to our trip so some rough stuff was to be expected.
Eventually we emerged on the main road between Armidale and Ebor so we enjoyed the fast run back to Dorrigo before heading for a bit more dirt road on our way back into Coffs.
Anyone finding themselves in the Armidale Kempsey area looking for a nice run on dirt I can highly recommend the ride.
I have a set of Anakee 111 on the Wee and found the going a bit disconcerting on the wet loose gravel corners but once the surface changed to hard packed gravel had no problems.

Life is too short to ride shit bikes.

What a great ride Alstrom. Faye and I were at the Pub With No Beer a few months ago ... with our mobile road block on behind the Falcon. We camped on their wide river flat opposite the pub, just far enough away from the toilet block Love to do it on the V one day.

There is usually another way.

I learned a song by that name 50 years ago. Such a sad thought.
It's an actual place, don't that beat all!

Was that the road going up through Nulla Creek? I heard it was blocked due to a landslide a few yrs back and they didn't bother to fix it....

Be a good one to try out

Cheers

Armidale-Kempsey Road

Alstrom, you didnt manage to find a green hiking tent along there somewhere. I lost 1 off the back of the bike about 2 years ago. Great Road, good scenery. I did that ride in Winter, it was cold but the ride itself made up for it. Ended up staying the night in Guyra, great pub there and meals were great. I was a bit greatful for the tent bailing, as it was a very cold night.

Cheers

I sang that song in the 60's at a high school talent hootenanny. I didn't realize that people should have stood and put their hands or hats over their hearts.
I still kind of know Queensland drovers too.

My son was downloading and burning some music onto a disc for me when he spotted Pub With No Beer, he knows I love to sing it so he put it on the disc.

Turns out is was sung by a Irish band but that puts a smile on my face every time I hear it and others in my car laugh.

Last time I was at Nindigully Pub there was a mob of Queensland drovers taking their cattle south for greener pastures, needless to say there was a good time had that night.
Glad I didnt come accross them on the ride home the next day.

By cattle, I hope you mean sheep! I got caught behind a few cattle drives, cow type, on back roads. Got cover in Bovine excrement! What a faging thrill that was. One doesn't want to get between mom and calf!
Ah, the bucolic life!
