I bought a digital thermometer from Cyclemax. The sensor has a 18" lead. I'm going to mount the unit near the speedo. Where's a good place for the sensor?
I don't know if you have enough lead but on my 2006 I mounted it under the fairing above the front tire. I drilled a small hole or two and used a zip-tie to secure it. This kept it out of sun and away from most of the heat of the engine.
I'm most interested in how you are going to mount the display? The only thing I can think of is double sided tape, but I am also not sure if the cheapo thermometers I got from eBay are going to withstand the sun.
I'm going to mount it flush near the speedo. It comes with a clip to hold it snug. I use an old soldering iron to melt the plastic instead of using a Dremel.
I fashioned a little tab of aluminum that I mounted off my Pat Walsh bracket which houses my GPS. Used hook/loop tape to attach my aquarium thermomter. I taped the sensor to the fairing underneath the bracket. Seems to work well.
Doesn't matter where you mount it as long as it doesn't catch engine heat while moving. While stopped, it'll always read high.
