It depends on how much gear you use, what percentage of its power being used and what bike you have. DL1000s after 2002 and DL650s after 2007 have 125-150W of 400W total available. 2007 and earlier Wees have 100-125W of 375W avaliable while 2002 Vees have 76-100W of 350 available. People pushing the envelope are advised to run voltmeters and not go below the break even point of 12.6-12.8V for extended periods.

Pat- 2007 DL650A was ridden to all 48 contiguous states. I didn't quite make it to 17,000 miles on the 2012 DL650A.
Nicknames I use to lessen typing, Vee = 2002-2012 DL1000s. Vee2=2014+ DL1000s. Wee = 2004-2011 DL650s. Glee = 2012+ DL650s
