Well, I've now got Andy's Panniers and, would you believe, the first person I spoke to after putting them on was the fabricator for the support frames!
I plan on my first long trip in November. I have (I think and hope) everything, but just have to make sure it works and I know how to work it.
Do you get cold hands under gloves? If so, how did you solve the problem?

Thanks - I'm convinced i"m on the right path. Now to just get it all and get out, trying it out. My other solution for some travels will be to stay at Youth Hostels - a change for w/w gear to drain out if the weather turns bad.
I'm also planning on getting the B & B bashplate!
