In retrospect I think my expectations for the surgery outcome were too high. The reality is that I will always be in some level of discomfort. While the fusion has eased the pain in the spine itself, I have new pain in my hips and SI joints. Not as bad as before without a doubt, but not a perfect solution. My suggestion is like everyone else's. Lose some weight, follow the therapy exercises to the letter and get on with life. I started riding after 3 months but nothing serious until about 6 months. I do ride with a Back-a-line back brace which is the best brace I have found. I have done a few 500 mile days with the longest 680 miles - all blacktop but still not bad for an old guy less than a year out from major surgery.

When is your surgery scheduled? I wish you well with it. Its a hard go, but you will be fine as long as you are a good patient. Let me know if you have any more specific questions. Take care.

I saw your post on the lower back surgery. I was curious how it turned out. I am having the same surgery done and looking for advise. Recovery, pain levels, riding after.

    Thanks for the help.
