Berty222, just got back from a 3400 mile ride over 8 days on the new V Strom. I have modified the Givi Airflow and added tank area deflectors. The stock Givi is not all that good at speeds over 60 mph, I can now cruise at 80 mph with clean air and low noise. I will write a report later on the windshield section of the forum and maybe another place about the tank deflectors. I made all the parts myself, but I think others can follow what I done fairly easily.

Hello, I was wondering if you still use the Givi Airflow and what height do you find it to work best. How tall are you ? Also did you install side deflectors and if so do you recommend them or did you learn of any better ones?

    Thanks

Banks C, depending on the year you might ask about any clutch spline work. Especially the '02 model. At 41K it is past where the earlier signs of this might show up. The '04 can need new coils for the outer "twin spark" plugs, if it starts hard, idle is a bit rough, and just doesn't run good these are a thing to check out. Obviously ask about the final drive bearing, but that isn't near as big a problem as it is made out to be. If the bike has has decent maintenance it should be good to go for a lot of miles. Do ask if the brake fluid flush procedure has been done and how often. When was it done last. This is the most time consuming part of maintenance on the BMW imo and is too easily overlooked.

I have always found the R1150 looks far superior to the R1200 ... although that is obviously just a personal thing. I have found a mint condition R1150 for sale that a distant relative is selling now that he has gotten so much older. You are obviously a very experienced "wrench" who does most, if not all, of his own maintenance. From your experience may I ask if there is anything in particular I need to really watch over time? It only has 41,058 miles on it. It hasn't moved in over 2 months. But I love the comfort and looks. And the bigger engine is a bit of a plus over my DL650.

Thanks for any advise you can give.

I think this will be perfect for my son - I've got a PM in to him (but, being young, he's probably just gone to bed). Mt Desert Island is beautiful at this time of year...

I would love to own that bike, and $1,000 is an incredible deal but that's over 1,600 miles from me. I can't get that long a kitchen pass right now but I know someone closer will snap it up soon. Good luck and great cause!

Barry slipped that post in on me! We have talked about the best way to do this. This is a great opportunity to get into owning a "special" Wee Strom for CHEAP!

$1000 is the price if someone can make it easy on Barry to handle.

oh, sorry I see where you already said "it's the same part number, so no improvements."
When I'm at work i tend to scan messages too quickly, my bad.
I'll let you know how the test goes.
    Thanks again

    Terry,
The bike actually only has 200 miles on it (spanking new) and I already have a rough spot in the usual suspect range, which makes me think it's just going to get worse with time.
I was curious if you had heard that they finally resolved it?
So what I'll do is test it the way you recommended (slight pressure on the clutch) and let you know if there is noticable difference.
    Thanks,
    Stephen

Stephen, how many miles do you have on the '12 Vee? In testing we have seen the early signs of chudder at just over 3,000 miles. Not to the point where it is objectionable, just that after knowing what it is you can tell it is there. Do the chudder test: while riding thru the range where you feel the vibrations lightly feather the clutch lever. Just put a bit of pressure on it, not enough that the clutch slips. You are "loading' the pressure plate which stabilizes the basket. IF that makes it smoother you have chudder to some degree at least. The clutch basket on the 2012 Vee is the same as the early models, same part number so there are no improvements. While it is possible you might get the dealer/suzuki to replace your basket under warranty, it is not a "permanent" fix. My WERKS basket is actually smoother than a new basket and is meant to be a long term fix for chudder issues. If you want more information about that contact me at info@werksparts.com Terry

    Terry,
    Hi, new member here.
I just purchased a new 2012 DL1000 and already believe it has chudder.
I feel it between 2500-3500. Do you know if they had this worked out for 2012 or is this the standard chudder that has always been?
    Thanks for any advice, Stephen

I appreciate the offer, but I had to act fast yesterday and get that stator in the mail. I might be sending you a clutch basket in the future if you're still doing that, or I might give it a shot myself, not sure how easy it is to mess that up.

    Thanks again,
