That was us! Keep an eye on dualsport.ca, we do a lot of organized rides from there. Here's the pics from that ride: 2011-11-13 Mooseland Sheet Harbour - Nova Scotia Dual Sport Club [NSDSC] | SmugMug

    Hey Jim
Took today off and just returned from a 380km ride and got your message.
I have to get an "arthrogram"?? on the wrist. The doc thinks there might be ligament damage...or it just might be arthritis claiming another part of my body.
I don't remember any bad bridges but there was one pretty bad wash out.I think you would have made it unless conditions changed....then again I am pretty hard on my gear and think nothing of pushing the limits.
The bike is being repaired at Pro Cycle.
Maybe we can get together for a run through the Highland Road next year.I plan on a camping trip up there.A fishing rod is coming along next time...I was told that most places where there are pools at the culverts there are lots of trout. Can you say "pan fry"?? Fresh over the fire is the best way to cook and eat trout!!!
I was off work 5 weeks and returned under modified duties but am back to full duties now.

Yes I did get to Cape Clear, but not how you're thinking. I was driving back to Sydney from Little Narrows one Sunday and decided to see if I could find it. Long and short of it, I did find it. It's spectacular, but I'll never go in a VW Jetta again! I decided to see if I could drive right through and come out at Wreck Cove. I got as far as a sign within site of the Wreck Cove lakes with a warning that strength of the bridge surfaces couldn't be guaranteed (maybe you remember seeing it). It was there that I ran into some guys fishing and they said better be guided by that, so I had to drive all the way back to the red barn. Sheeat.

    Hey Steve,

It sounds like your injuries were worse than you indicated. Are you still off work? (were you ever off work...sorry)

You know, Lab turning out like it did for you makes you more of an expert than someone who make the trip unskathed....and it's when it turns out it did for you that you meet people and make friends. And for what it's worth I use the worth more dead than alive thing on my wife a lot. She pretends that she doesn't think about that and it's not important balh blah blah. I know dollar signs in her eyes when I see them!!

Having the trip I planned for over a year end the way it did was disappointing but the outcome could have been a lot worse.I knew there were risks involved before I left but "nothing ventured nothing gained".I had an awesome time up to and even after the crash.Labrador is a very interesting place and the people are outstanding.I made some great friends and plan on returning....although my wife is against me going back on the bike. She thinks I may kill myself next time ....I guess nobody told her I am worth more dead than alive.LOL
On a good note the knobbies have a ton of tread on them and I don't plan on wearing them out on pavement!!! It's going to be a long winter.

Hey Jim good to hear from you.I just returned from a week of hunting at the camp and got your message.
Thanks for the condolences. My shoulder is just about fully healed but my right wrist is still giving me grief. It may require surgery. It took 2months to get my bike shipped home.I had it appraised 2 weeks ago and the parts are on order.Only cosmetic but still about 4400.00 in total damages including labour.
I took her for a 300km run 2 days after it arrived home(the wrist isn't that bad) and it sure felt good after missing 2 months of riding.
Did you ever get up to Cape Clear? I plan on heading back up there next summer for sure.Would liked to have gone this fall with the leaves in colour but oh well.

I'm seeing more and more about Heidenau's. You're ahead of the curve buddy. I'm back on Tuesday but I'll be tied up in the office all day. By then I will have been up
here for 10 days which is way too long! On Friday I'm off to Gaspe/Chicoutimi/Quebec/Mt Washington. Thunder in the Highlands is the 1st weekend I'm back. I was thinking of trailering my bike down because I'd need my car there that week. If that happens I'd love to do something, but in my situation, I'm happy just to fit myself in with anyone else's plans.

If you do Highland Rd, search Cape Clear on NSDSR forum. There is a thread on there where a guy has the GPS coordinates and pictures. I think just googling Cape Clear Cape Breton will get you there as well.

I am ready and once I get the new Elka shock installed(and the tires) the bike will be more than ready!!
I installed the modified forks and went for a short test drive and I am very impressed with the improvement, especially on the rough dirt roads, and the dive when braking is so much better.
Didn't get out today but might get out Friday.I was going to take Friday off and head to Cape Breton and run Hunters Mountain but it is going to rain Saturday.I think I will hold off until the end of the month and do the Thunder in the Highland rally and run Hunters Mountain then.
Are you up for a run next week if we go?
