I used wheel bearing grease...it's a high temp, all weather grease and it worked very well. As for the springs, I just used my drum break spring tool and they popped right on. Do the smaller, inside spring first.

It really was a 30 minute install...and most of that time was trying to figure out where and how to mount the two brackets to the bike underneath.
